It was last Thursday that was held the official unveiling of the L’Art Du Style exhibit with a cocktail at Complexe Les Ailes. For the occasion, artists, jury members, representatives Complexe Les Ailes as well as media and friends were reunited for the announcement of the big winner of the creative contest that was launched last May.
To put you back in context, the L’Art Du Style contest required local artists to submit artistic projects inspired by trendy items found in some Complexe Les Ailes boutiques. People were then asked to vote for their favorite project via Facebook to determine one of the 10 finalists. At the beginning of July, a jury composed of Geneviève Borne, spokesperson for the Montreal Fashion & Design Festival, Jean-François Daviau, co-president of Sensation Mode, Benoit Lach, producer at Blach Films, Frédéric Loury, owner of SAS gallery and director of Art Souterrain, as well as me, your dear blogger, met to choose the remaining 9 projects. The finalists then had about a month to realise their projects, and the L’Art Du Style exhibit was launched during the Montreal Fashion & Design Festival (read my post The 12th edition of the MFDF and the L’Art Du Style exhibit) on August 1st.
Finally, the jury was brought together again last Thursday before the event to choose the winning project, which awarded one creator a $5000 grant. After deliberation, Simon L’Archeveque’s silkscreen printings were chosen for it’s human side and the emotion that came of it, for the artistic and original vision of a pair of New Balance shoes as well as for the execution of the pieces. A special mention was given to Michel Pierre-Louis for the audacity and originality of his sculpture. Congratulations to every candidates that took part of the project and made the first edition of the L’Art Du Style contest a success.
You can admire the 10 projects on the ground floor of Complexe Les Ailes until the end of September!
